Often, players will encourage the grandmapocalypse to grow their cookie empire, willing to sacrifice the in-game universe for higher profits. While the player has the option to make a deal with these elder grandmas to keep them back, the features brought about by the so-called "grandmapocalypse" provide a few ways to make even more cookies. Like something resembling Halo's Flood, the grandmas transform into an eldritch hivemind of flesh and cookies, consuming the world and threatening reality itself. They have 2 upgrades, normal upgrades that are unlocked by having a certain number of Grandmas (These have rolling pin icons and are not relevant), and synergy upgrades that are unlocked by having fifteen of other buildings (These have Grandma icons). The game's news ticker talks of cities being consumed in cookie dough, people are mutating due to the influence of nefarious cookie dimensions, and scientists warn that the universe is becoming cookies on a molecular level. Step 1: Get the 'Elder' Achievement Grandmas are an unique type of building. I feel my heart racing just thinking about it. Even the humble lemonade stand sees the player installing lemon implants in customers, while also removing every other source of moisture from the world. As numbers grow larger, the implications of what the player is doing to humanity and the planets begins to resemble the dystopias of Cyberpunk 2077 or Deus Ex. That's where the true, subtle existential horror of clicker games is realized. The player purchases tax shelters, employs all of humanity, and begins to travel to the moon and Mars to set up businesses for nothing more than watching the amount of money made every second grow to even greater numbers. Their banks increase profits with credit card implants in customers, their movies wipe memories of viewers, prompting another watch. As they purchase more businesses to make money with, the player can purchase monopolies, implying they control entire markets. As a game of AdVenture Capitalist goes on, players will start to notice something sinister in the upgrades and improvements they purchase.
